MBUUZA EXHIBITION @MOTIV maker space was created by artists Pamela Enyonu, Njola Impressions and Matt Kayem, and curated by Trevor Mukholi.
“Mbuuza” is a Lugandan word that translates as “I am asking”, and the work in this exhibition is an investigation into how consumerism, the thirst for development, perpetual growth and convenience is affecting humans and the world we inhabit. The artists are asking these questions, bali mu kwebuuza, (they are asking).
“Mbuuza” is a response to the larger body of work in “the cultural archive”, in the part of that project which aims to explore, surface, disrupt and create alternative archives.
“My 2020 is determined to end the way it started. Lots of activity! Our small small happening with co-consipirators Njola Impressions Matt Kayem and Trevor Mukholi is already on view. Pass by and raise hell! Ask plenty of obnoxious questions. We demand it!”
